Learning Strategies and Methods

Studying with Openstudy will involve four main activities:

    1. Tutorials: Students will receive one-to-one feedback on their work and be helped to identify their strengths and weaknesses.

    2. Discussion: Students will be asked to give their opinions on topics they have studied.

    3. Private Study: Students are given references and a list of recommended reading to consult and prepare for the next session, or to follow-up from a previous session.

    4. Individual Research: Students plan, research and present a detailed study.

One of the great things about learning with Openstudy is that it is flexible. You don't have to turn up to classes on set times and dates; you study where you want and when you want.

To give our students the best learning experience possible, Openstudy uses the SCATE instructional design model. SCATE stands for:

SCOPE: this section provides the context and the learning outcomes for each unit.

CONTENT: this section contains the main unit content.

ACTIVITY: this section is the most significant for student learning. It contains activities which will help students further understand the facts and concepts presented to them in the previous section.

THINKING: this section gives students the opportunity to reflect and share with their peers their experience of studying each unit.
EXTRA: this section may contain further study materials, remedial or advanced.

The use of SCATE makes the structure of the learning materials explicit and significantly increases the readability, comprehension and retention of information.

We constantly devise and develop new, high-quality academic courses and online methods to meet the demands of its expansion. Support services are continually evaluated and monitored to ensure that the needs of our students are met.

With us, you will have a specifically assigned personal tutor, who will be in regular contact with you to give you one-to-one assistance and answer any questions you may have throughout the course of your studies. Our tutors have expertise in a range of Islamic and Philosophical fields and, like our students, are located all over the world. All correspondence is done online, so our students must have regular access to the Internet.

The syllabus and reading list for each module is available for registered students on our website. The syllabus sets out the work required for the module and also provides learning outcomes as well as core materials. Students receive online taught units every week. They need to complete weekly assignment and submit it to their tutor by email for correcting and grading through the Internal messaging service on the website. The tutor then provides feedbacks to the students.
